The stadium was inaugurated on the 24th of september 1957, beeing Mr. Francesc Miró sans chairman of the club. The inicial capacity of the stadium was of 93´053 visitors and the main materials used for the construction were iron and concrete. Under Mr. Josep Lluis Núñez presidency, the stadium experienced its most spectacular evolution beeing awarded with the UEFA’s “five star stadium” qualification. The first refurbisment work took place in 1982 and consisted on the building of the third row of seats, obtaining 22´150 new seats. Now the final capacity of the Camp Nou was of 120´000 seats. During the summer of 1994 the stadium was remodeled again in order to suppress the standing localities behind the goal area. As a consequence, the ground was removed and built back again three meters lower as before and the ditch that surrounded the ground was suppressed.
The last reconversion of the standing seats at the third row into seating localities left the final capacity of the stadium of almost 100´000 seating places. The stadium is 48 meters high and has 55´000 m2 and the dimencion of the ground is 107 per 72 meters. The doors around the stadium allow evacuation in only 5 minutes.
